part 21, 2011

the next day we decided to do a road trip, though we've rented two cars. Our goal was the small town called Ronda. The way to get there was quite adventures, crawling up on tiny narrow roads, next to big mountains.

when we got there we sat down to have our regular 'caffe con leche' [coffee with milk] and waited for the  members of the other car to arrive.

and then we were off to Rondas biggest attraction...

...Puente Nuevo! A big bridge which divides ronda with a huuuge gorge. The bridge took 42 years to build and a part of the bridge was also used for prison.

and just beautiful views where ever you looked

gabdave!

and if the tree to the left on the picture were a cork oak this would be a typical place for the bull 'ferdinand' (walt disney character) to sit at. In fact, the oldest bullfight ring in Spain, is the one in Ronda, and is still in use once a year. (but I think i prefer to watch walt disneys ferdinand)

we found a humangous pot that cracked as we tried to enter it...

and just where the bridge met the ground there was a lovely waterfall.

opa!

then, when the local was taking their siesta, we needed ice cream!

we found a big jasmine tree/bush/whatever that smelled 3 streets down. Oh how I wish they would be easier to take care of. (keeps dying within 2 weeks.) maybe it doesn't like england.

this was our next goal: the cave of the cats. Apparently the opening of the cave should look like a cat.. Any how, the path/bridge was broken so we didn't really wanted to risk our lifes for it and decided to go to another cave.

but that was easier said then done, when the signs just disappeared and left was just lonely roads in the mountains. We found a small village and luckaly Gabby and Dave are spanish speeking so we asked the locals how to get to the cave. But before that, we needed more ice cream!

ahh! a sign! [cueva de la pileta]

and finally we found it! by luck more or less.

this is just outside the cave. unfortunately you were not aloud to take photos inside the cave (I'm very happy for that, otherwise the millions of bats would have killed me!!!) but it was amazing with ancient rock paintings and incredible mineral formations.

and then the rocky mountains home and the spanish sun, setting at our back.
